| Hi guys, got a problem here I'm looking for a bit of insight too.
System Specs first!
Intel E6320
EVGA 680i A1
2Gigs of Wintec DDR2-800
FSP 350watt (The model with 2x 12v rails)
Maxtor 40gig IDE
7800GT
Ok so the problem. In BIOS, my CPU shows as having 2 cores, which it should of course. I boot into windows, and no matter what app. I run, it only shows 1 core. I've doubled checked BIOS to make sure both cores are Enabled, which they both are.
I've made one hardware change recently, and that was the new RAM. I had 2x 512 stick of DDR2-667 previous to the Wintec kit.
I ran Memtest on all RAM previous to the build. I know all RAM is good.
The Motherboard I can test tomorrow, but short history on the board is it's a RMA's from EVGA themselves. My first A1 had some issues, I RMA'd it and received this board back.
CPU I've had for 6 months now, and it has been OC'd, of course, but nothing to extreme on voltage or temps. Highest ever this CPU hit was 69°. Which I know absolute max is 72c for Conroes. Also, the voltage was never over 1.45, which again the max recommended is 1.5.
So now on to my questions.
1. Will a bad windows install cause this?
2. Will a bad board show it right in BIOS, and wrong once OS is loaded in?
3. Is there anything else I'm missing?
Like I said, I'll swap boards tomorrow, to see if it still does it on the MSI P35 board. But for now, any suggestions?
Thanks as always wise Timo'ers!

| Reinstall chip set drivers....
Could try a repair installation of Windows. Use your Windows disk. (So I have read)

| Ok. So it turns out it was my chipset drivers. I uninstalled, used the disc that came with the motherboard. Reinstalled then, and both cores are back. Yay!
Now I'm updating to the latest chipset driver, just to see what happens. I'm almost sure it was running the latest driver, but honestly I don't remember.
Anywho, thanks Key! I'll be gentle on you next time we're on COD..
EDIT:
One thing I just thought about. How does you chipset driver connect to your fan headers?
The reason I ask, 2 of my fan headers went dead with the core. Now all of a sudden, they both work again, along with the second core..
Now I'm just amazed at my skill of screwing up my system..

Remember the chipset drivers are the ones which makes the mobo run smooth. Nothbridge, southbridge, peripherals, etc, etc.

| Chipset drivers are the most vital to your system.
Your fans do work, correct?

| Just some FYI, I did have the chipset drivers installed. I just don't remember they were the latest yet.
But still, I've never heard of chipset drivers controlling fan headers, that's a new one for me.
After a full night, the second core is still going strong. So I'm pretty sure the problem is fixed.. |
