I saw a new card is out from Nvidia: The 9600gso. It has some wierd specifacations. Does anyone know which is better: 9600gt -or- 9600gso
9600gt:
-512mb
-64 stream processors
-256 bit
9600gso:
-1536mb
-96 stream processors
-192 bit interface
Does the extra memory and stream processors make up for it's lesser bit interface? |

I don't know where you live, but in the USA the GSO isn't even out yet. However, the general idea is that the 9600GT is supposed to be slightly better than the 9600GSO.
Also, I don't know if the specs you posted are accurate. The 9600GSO is supposed to have 384MB of memory, not 1536MB. |

I just checked nVidia's website. It says 384MB of memory with a 192-bit interface.
The card has been announced, but it isn't available for sale in the US yet. So, as far as I can find, there is only one way to tell how good it will be:
The 9600GSO is essentially the same card as the 8800GS, nVidia's lowest 8800 series card. So if you look up benchmarks for that, you'll see about how good the GSO is. |

yeah, was reading about that card last night or night before, the 9600GSO is as Heroes said, essentially an 8800GS, not sure if its using the G94 core, or G92 like the 8800GS, but its supposed to be the replacement for the 8800GS... why, I have no clue, since the 9600GT is already in the GS's price range/territory anyways... it was the 9600GT that "demoted" the 8800GS even further down the line, but now they want to release another card to fill in even lower... guessing to replace the 8600GT/GTS series... |

When I was first reading about the 8800GS, the article said it was to replace the 8600GT. But at the time, they were like $120, so the 8600GT was still a bit cheaper.
But this would make sense to me. By releasing the GSO, it knocks down the 8800GS a peg, and probably puts it in the 8600GT price range, or close to it at least.
But from what I've read, the card performs well, but the 9600GT is still the better buy.
I have one in my rig now, and it's a sweet card I have to say. I would recommend it to anyone.
