| Job Search: Medical Billing?
Hey gang...I'm in need of a 2nd job and a friend of mine was telling me about this the other day:
DATA ENTRY, could earn $15 per hour and up, medical billing company seeks people to process claims, will train, P.C. required, call 7 days; 1-800-797-7511 ext. 301
Anyone here ever tried that? Or maybe know someone who does it? Kinda curious what all is involved, how many hours, how much can you *really* make, etc...
Thanks in advance! |

Well Gouki, I had a friend inquire about one of those "Would YOU like to earn up to $80,000 from the privacy of your own home?" ads. What he found out was that he had to stuff envelopes with some sort of flyer, I can't remember exactly what it was. Anyhoo, he would be paid based on the # of envelopes that he filled per week...to be honest it was some crazy amount like 15,000 or something...needless to say he gave it a shot and quit after 3 days. I would give it a good hard look and ask a lot of questions...if they get irritated about you inquiring so much, they're probably not going to be too legit. Just make sure all of the details are laid out on the table before you (or your friend) sign up! Get EVERYTHING in writing before the work begins or you'll be sorry later...
Mike

I had a next door neighbor that looked into something like that, but it turned out to be kind of a scam.
What he was told is that he had to "buy our software package" from the company for about $400, THEN they would train him on the use of the software, then he could start processing the claims for them.
Be sure to ask if you have to buy anything from them BEFORE you get started, or you could be out some cash.
Also ask about how many claims you must process before you get paid, to make sure they don't have some rediculous "minimum amount" before you start getting paid.(notice the "COULD", before the "earn"? )
It could be legit, but I myself will not pay for any "special software" up front before going to work for them.
Also ask how much you will get paid per claim, how much work they anticipate having for you, and how long they have been in business, who they work for,9hospital/doctor/insurance company names, etc) and ask for some references while you are at it.
The reason I am so wary is that same ad is in several of the local papers here in Texas also.
It might be legit, but check them out thoroughly before jumping in, because I would hate for you to be out money for getting started, then find out they pay like a nickel a claim (or something like that) and it would take a huge amount of time to recoup your initial investment. |

Thanks for the replies thus far...
I will definitely be asking some questions before I sign my name to anything...you had some questions that I hadn't thought of though. Thanks!

I called them up and here's my opinion:
They want $499 for the software and some training videos. They will give you a list of doctors whom you have to contact to get business.
STAY AWAY is my advice. | |
