Best home security system

Hey guys...

Anyone have suggestions on what *home* security systems are good? ADT, Brinks, ETc..

Don't think I neccesarily want a monitored service.. just something heavy duty..

If it can integrate with my PC that's a plus... also if it can use wireless or proximity for door access (I think i prefer proximity)

don't mind spending a few thousand.. so doesn't have to be a cheap model.. want something good that can last a while..

I'm with Wart, 'ceptin' fer a three fitty seven mag wit jacketted hollow points. Theoretically of course you can then shoot the perp w/out killing him or rendering a limb here and there. :P Course when ya'll live in the country like I does, the only perps ya really see are skunks and foxes. If I had a security system, I'd set it up to call the animal control office, rather than the police...

Good ole Doberman Defense System. Just go out to a kennel, buy a Dobe, and train him good. Have fun when the bad guys come to town

BTW, forget shotguns. Get yourself one of THESE!

Electronic security systems can be more trouble than they are worth. I once had a neighbor that had one installed that came with a blow horn that sat on top of his house. It would go off like three times a night and wake the entire neighborhood. After about two months he finally turned it off. Just put up a big fence and get three dogs to roam the yard at night or when you are away.

The appropriate security system depends upon your house, neighborhood, proximity of your neighbors, and whether or not you have pets running around the house.

The system doesn't have to be terribly expensive, but should be well planned. Remember, the more secure the domain is against burglarly the more hazzardous it may be in case of fire and escape.

Since you are prepared to spend a lot of money, it is well worth the expense to have a monitored system. It can save you a lot of grief and may even save your life.

How much security do you want? Are you afraid of HOME INVASION or just have some concerns about burglary?

Hard switches are better than motion detectors. Wire closet doors. If you don't have pets running around, use floor mat switches under your carpeting.

The main trigger WHEN not at home would fire lights and dial the security company AND not an alarm that will irritate neighbors. Besides having several interior lights go on, have a beacon on top of your chimney. It will scare a burglar nothing flat. The light will create more of a scene than an alarm. It can also be seen further and immediately identifies the house. With an alarm, people get numb plus police (or whatever) have to hunt around to see where the noise is originating.

If you are at home, THEN I would also have it fire an alarm! Let your neighbors know if the alarm goes off, you are home and there is either a medical emergency or a home invasion!

Put up rose bushes outside your first floor windows.

Mine's a Labrador Retriever. Her name is Ebony, she's 120lbs and she barks like hell anytime the door opens. She sleeps in my daughter's room.

The barking gets on my nerves once and a while. But then I remember that she's doing 'her job'.
