Tips for quitting smoking

As of an hour ago I have smoked (I hope) my last cigarette. So far leading up to this day I have outlawed smoing in my house and car for the past year. The car part was painful but I got over it. I plan on chewing lots of gum. I am thinking about trying the patch if I start getting overwhelming urges to scream or hurt someone.

Anyone that has successfully quit I could use some tips.

Back when I was a kid I used to find my mom's cigarettes and break them and throw them in the trash.

She used to get sooooooooo p*ssed!

Finally, a few years ago, my mom stopped cold turkey after about twenty years. I dont know how she did it. Not much of a tip, but shows it CAN be done. Have faith and good luck.

from the moment you stop tell people you are a non smoker. Esp if they are offering you a ciggerate. Nobody says anything about a non smoker not taking a ciggie but you say your trying to give em up and they'll be at you till you take one. You sure? Ah go on one won't hurt you, etc. etc

Do it gradual, dude. Like I gave up smoking during the day and now only smoke like 2 cigarettes after dinner. Will give that up too in a couple of years.

Trick is in doing it gradual. Good luck.

Not smoking in the house or car cut it down for me and hopefully got me through the tougher parts.

Keep at it!!

It has been many years since I quit but I can remember how difficult it was. I slept a lot figuring that when I was asleep I didn't need to smoke (but I did dream about it; still do occasionally). Back then I had some kind of nicotine gum that burned my throat kind of like a pipe did. I chewed some of that when I was desporate. I also had to avoid drinking parties for a while because that would mess me up. (I quit several times before I got it right.) Just make up your mind that you will be miserable for a while and then don't smoke. Don't worry about gaining weight either until you have quit for a while. You can lose it later.

Good luck. You're doing good.

I smoke now but I am thinking about not allowing smoking when I get my new car, sounded to me like a good way to stop the bad habbit. Not to mention the money I will save

I tried the gum before:
-it tastes terrible!!

I tried the patch too:
-didn't stop me from smoking but I noticed that it helped me cut down quite a bit Also should note the side effect, you have some really odd dreams when you are on the patch. ( not sure if the side effect is good or bad yet )

Still trying to quit.......

I have tried three-four times so far, and the patch DOES help a lot!!

I just need to find a year without stress, Im weak.......

Actually made it without smoking for 5 months, even when my wife was still smokin.
My son got a kidney transplant, so I started again.

Its always something, eh

Chiguy-

I am going to stick to regular gum. Nicorette tastes like what I would imagine licking an ashtray would taste like. Nasty evil stuff.
