Free bsd returns to original owner

i've not really used free bsd much, but a friend of mine swears by it and says it's better than linux. i'm inclined to believe him, only because the offical documentation issued by free bsd blows any linux documentation you can think of away...

I've used FreeBSD for about 3 days on a server I setup. I did some stuff to it but I'm hoping to get it back up again in a few days. A few people I've chatted with have told me its a lot better than Linux and one of these days I think I'll use it and load up X. I've just got it at console for the server....

Ran it on some servers for a year, way back and it ran flawlessly without problems and it is fast. It was all prompt, so did not have a window to work in....if you don't mind doing it that way....Kind of reminded me of working in dos. Cute little devil... Wonder what they will do to it....in the future?

Pretty bulletproof stuff, the BSD's (there are several flavors out there, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses, but all free), and the majority of univerity campuses run on it because it's so bulletproof. Think of what those kids do to that network and it just takes it. I wouldn't mind dinking with it sometime.

Do you Yahoo?
Last I heard Yahoo ran entirely on FreeBSD

Wasn't Hotmail on FreeBSD pre-MS? (hmm last I heard about a year or so ago, MS was never able to fully migrate off of BSD, but that may have changed by now.)

OpenBSD is said to be one of the most secure locked down OS's

Only problem with FreeBSD is it doesn't have the hardware support that Linux has (now isn't that a scary thought?)

So not much for PC's, primarily for servers.
