they are doing much better than was thought... they live to see another year without being bought by intel...
(and yes, we all know intel is waiting until they're so in the tank financially they can sweep em up and end the chip wars once and for all) |

I'm going to be buying a 1.4Ghz T-Bird as soon as my tax return comes!
I'll look into the stocks too! Wow thats like just having bill gates walk up to you and say "hey give me a dollar, and I'll give you a billion in a year!" In a year or so I'm sure AMD's stocks will fly sky high! |

The problem is not entirely quantity sold. Dont forget their in a bloody pricewar as well. So especially AMD has to keep their prices dirt cheap to undercut Intel which is not an easy thing to do regardless due to Intel's sheer size. So until AMD can get a solid foothold in the corporate arena (like our buds at EA ) they will probably continue to "just make it"
Hopefully more corporates will follow EA, so we can take some of the weight off of AMD.
Dont get me wrong, your support I'm sure is well appreciated
IF I'm able to build a new pc this year and I know I'd love to, it will definately be an AMD |

It happens again and again and again......its not about who has the best product. Its about who is the best at scaming people out of their money. Fortunately for intel, at the time they rose to dominance there was no decent competitor, they probably didnt need to scam.
And now that they have that foothold, it doesnt matter how cheap and far better performing amd chips are......99.9% of people dont know jack about computers. And thats the way intel would like to keep it.
Dont think its gonna change. We could convince EVERY person in america who builds comps to buy amd and we'd make an insignificant contribution. The key is to convice companies (like EA) to put pressure on the developers of the hardware they code for. THAT is where the strength lies. Convince your boss of amd's superiority.
But, most companies buy their computers from Dell, or IBM or something like that. The big makers (Dell, Gateway, HP, compaq, IBM) are the ones that AMD needs to take sight of. The thing is, Intel has probably already leveraged these companies into very good contracts that benefit the both of them. In fact, Intel could afford to reduce profits, or even take a loss, if it means taking share away from AMD long enough for the company to go belly up. |
