I'm very happy and relieved for David and his family, and I'm thinking they must be too! The penalties attached to these charges were insane.

Congratulations, David!!

It says in the linked article that the state had computed that the software used 59cents worth of bandwith a second! Where in the world did they get that number? That's the most expensive internet connection I've ever heard of.

I'm very glad for David. The charges were insane and so is the outcome. There should have been no fine, no probation, and no community service. The state of Georgia thinks it saved face but it still looks like an idiot to me.

Anyway, I'm happy for David's sake it's over. I hope the fact that it was settled means that this hasn't opened the door for other looney lawsuites. If anyone is interested, now would be the time to go on over to Anand's forums and provide a little financial assistance to Dave so he can get this behind him.

Was just thinking what ever happened to him earlier today

Good to see that is all that he got. Those threats were insane.

We did it people!!! We created so much noise about this case that they finally decided that the only thing to do was let him go.... sort of... But yes..much better than what they were threatening...

Great news for David, and the whole distributed computing community!!

I sure hope David can get his life back together now, after all the trouble the morons in Georgia caused for him.

It's time for paybacks..!

What is their mailing address so I can send all of my junk mail to them. All of those phony address you need to make up for everything....

Little pieces of literature that fall out of magazines..."No salesman will call"....

I believe that Alumni lists are available for a reasonable fee...they should be informed that their college administrators are awake and vigilant.
They should get junk mail too.

This is good news, although I feel he should have notified them (his employers) in the begining I am happy to see that this case was settled in a civilised manner.

Even though he did not "get the book thrown at him" the fine is excessive, IMHO.

Granted he shoulda taken it off the pewters when he left, this sets a "precedence" for other prosecutors to go after other people who run "non-invasive" software.

But I must admit, things could have been worse.

Stealing a pack of cigs at a corner Stop & Rob is more of a crime that his actions, again IMHO.
