| Submit news scoop? Why? rant...
I submited a news scoop early this morning about the AOL/Red Hat news, and it was not posted. Then later in the day, this thread shows up: AOL in Talks to buy Red Hat.
If TechIMO is going to accept news scoops, how and when do they get posted? I waited and watched all day for it to show up, and it didn't.
Now when it does get posted, others will see it and say, "dude, someone already started a thread on that", when in fact I submitted it well before that thread began.
Just a rant..... |

I submited a news item on the same story. News storys must be reviewed by the MODS for obvious legal and ethical reasons. This takes time. The forums are instantaneous. It goes up as soon as it gets posted. I hate it that you missed your scoop dude.

Xeroid is right, but the news submissions are actually reviewed by the administrator(s) ...not the mods.
All I can offer is that I know Scott is VERY busy this weekend trying to make some other improvements to the site. |

If it makes ya feel any better I've posted several news stories never to be seen, for days.
Then a week or so later Mr.Stubblefield posts the same story.
What's happening is there are quite a few news hounds at this site. When a dozen people or so post the same story I'd assume that the admins just post it, period, no one gets credit.
They may have indeed discovered it prior to our submission.
I've worked in Corporate America for several decades, I know how things go when you have numerous interested parties submitting information.
Nothing covert, it's just the way the ball bounces.

I've posted some news lately and it hasn't been posted on the main site either.
Don't fret dude, the way I see it, it's happening to everyone. |

I too have submitted several news stories NONE OF WHICH EVER APPEARED.
Don't waste your time on weekends. I've NEVER had anything submitted lately during the weekend appear. It's sort of disheartening if you spent 20 minutes or so getting all the pieces to make sense and then there's not even a moderator submitted story about that piece of news that you though was interesting and worthwhile and which you thought others would find interesting.
And I've just about given up submitting stuff at any time. It's not worth the effort. Better to start a thread elsewhere so you can kick it around with those who are alive and active.
I honestly believe those who screen the news might as well do their own thing. It's a very subjective judgment and it sounds like they don't like some of your news stories and I KNOW they don't think most of mine are worthwhile.

Maybe Scott needs to re-evaluate the manner in which the news scoops are handled?
Just a thought. |

I have had 1 out of 2 news stories that I submitted get posted (not counting this one which speedstik beat me to anyway).
The one that was not posted was for a very good reason which Scott was nice enough to explain to me in an email.
