XP2500 to Have 0.13u Core
I'm just hoping that Thoroughbred will use Socket A (462). The .13u Die is going to be great. Hopefully the Revision B Athlon XP will finally outperform the Pentium 4 all the way. Just a question: How come an 1800MHz AXP has a Model Number of 2500+ instead of 2200+?

January 20th, 2002, 09:42 PM #21800Mhz is the 2200+, Think of it this way.close to the AMD action tell the INQUIRER that the XP 2500+ will use a .13 micron core but that the 2200+ will use .18 micron technology.
The 2200 is slated to appear this quarter, and it will support the usual cluster of multimedia instructions including MMX, 3DNow and SEE.
Other details are that it will run at 1800MHz, using a 133 x 13.5 multiplier, have a 64-bit dual pumped bus, operate at 1.75 volts, and have 64K data two way as well as 64K instructions, also two way.
They could have typed that a bit better, but the XP 2200-2400 will all be on .18u cores, 2500 @ 2Ghz will be .13u if you read down the article a bit this is mentioned that they aren't hurrying to 2Ghz (.13u)The 2200 is slated to appear this quarter, and it will support the usual cluster of multimedia instructions including MMX, 3DNow and SEE.

These cores just keep getting smaller and smaller. Its going to get real hard to put heatsinks on one day!

Thanks for the extensive response, it's much appreciated! I'm definitely going to look at all these options. Do you think the prices of the 660, 660ti or 7870 will drop when the new cards come out?
