| ASUS Extreme N6600GT Silencer 256MB Graphics Review Quote:
he Extreme N6600GT Silencer 256MB features a passively cooled heat pipe system that is completely silent. This is not a new concept but ASUS has suggested a new solution with a radically different heatsink design. With its weird radiator protruding out, it looks more like a cheap prop from some sci-fi television show. How does this unusual design compare to existing GeForce 6600 GT cards? Read on to find out if its performance goes deeper than its eccentric exterior.

For silenced cooling that does a really good job. I however have noise at a reasonable level for me and a fan on a video card really wont change that too much. That might get int the way of some of my stuff and I would have to opt out for a fan instead :/

Good deal, one less fan! Asus has the right idea; I noticed that their A8N SLI mobo has a heat pipe set-up on the Nvidia chipset… another fan gone. Oh, Thermaltake also has a PSU, even though only 350 watt now) that has no fan(s)… uses a heat pipe set-up that is placed outside of the case… two more fans gone. I hope the manufacturers keep looking for ways to remove all fans.
No! Water doesn’t belong in my Porsche nor in my computer. |

it seems like a neat idea, but dont you think it would take up a good bit of space in your computer? thats the only downside i can see to it, it looks cool, just large in size/span

you know it's big, but most of the bulk sits above the card. most systems have lots of room above the cards. There is another plus here, this heat pipe setup also keeps the heat from the vid card away from the mobo. most vid card fans blow the hot air from the gpu right on to the mobo and in my case the Nvidia chipset. |
