Carl33p:
The Conroe tested was the bottom line Conroe, not the Top of the Line and is set for about a $350.00 Retail Price.
The FX62 is the Top of the line from AMD, Retail Price around $1200.00.
Conroe destroys anything AMD current has, and at a great price!
It used to be AMD was the best for Price/Performance, but NO MORE.
It appears to me that AMD CPU's have been going up in Price, while there has not been that much in Performace upgrades. While Intel has introduced huge Performace upgrades, at very good prices.
Just think, you could buy about 4 Conroes for the cost of 1 FX. Guess my next build for sure will be Intel/Conroe.

Yep. The 2.66GHz 6700 is about half the price of an FX-62.
The 2.66GHz is about $530, it's the 2.4GHz that will be $310. The X6800 will be the top of the line at $999. It's 2.93GHz & will have an unlocked multiplier.

My 4000+ will do me fine for the next year. I prefer a top of the line graphics card over a top of the line CPU anyday. |

Can't wait for Vista to be released...buy it for ten bucks from my alum.
I won't be upgrading for a LOOONNNGGG while. Maybe I will upgrade next when they release the next big scoket and CPUS in a few years.

I'm staying with XP Pro. Have been using the Beta of Vista (Longhorn) and really cant see any improvements. My XP is heavily modified with many of the Options Vista has, so cant really see the point in wasting money for little benefit.
As for Upgrading, I will be doing that soon, and there is really only One Option, Core 2 Duo (Conroe) unless AMD brings out something soon that proves to be a competitor against Conroe. |

EX, thats what im also waiting to do... PATIENTLY haha
I want to get a laptop somewhat soon, but i have other things i need to save for. The laptop i have now is very fast, but very big and has a crappy design, i got a no name brand so the built in KB is dying etc.. I dont really want to get a laptop w/o getting Vista since its gonna be x64 and thats where everythign is going. So i guess sometime next year after vista comes out i will probably try to pick up a Core Duo 2 processor in a laptop with Vista, hopefully for less than $1000, think that will be possible
