Post VESA DisplayPort 1.1 Finalized !

    http://www.behardware.com/news/imprimer/8726/

The VESA consortium, which gathers most of the major actors of the display and video on computers world such as Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Sony, NEC or IIyama has approved the final specifications of the DisplayPort 1.1 interface. The latter will replace the DVI, LVDS and VGA (in the longer term) standards.

This new revision will bring the support of HDCP 1.3. According to the consortium, it will offer many advantages such as the smaller voltage to reduce power consumption when the interface isn't used at full capacity and the lower electromagnetic interferences. The other strong points are the comparable size to a USB hub connector, the simplification of the design complexity, the optional audio support and the bandwidth of 10.8 gigabits/sec. As the standard will be open, free of use and the result of a collaboration between the most important actors of the computer industry, chances are that it will be massively adopted even if it will probably take some time.

Just ease of interconnect, mostly. No pins, no fuss.
