They already have software to lock the phones up again so users can update.
Honestly i don't see what the big deal is, if you unlock the phone and the phone gets bricked its not apples fault. |

Oh no, not Apple. They're the nice company. The anti-Micro$oft company. The everyman's friend company. They would never succumb to pressure from the likes of AT&T and nuke their benevolent users' phones. Never.

| I could see if the customer bricked it. But to have a company brick your $ 500.00 phone is definitely going to wind up in court.
Just what do you own? |

A user can simple turn off auto update and this wont be an issue.
How do we know that the other updates for the iphone wouldn't brick the phone because its unlocked. Apple shouldn't have to work around users who have unlocked your phone. When you write over software to do something its not supposed to do, the warranty on the product is voided and isn't up to Apple to make special cases or work arounds for those who hacked the phone.
its what the user agrees too when they buy the phone, i didn't make the rule apple did. And Iphone users should of thought about that before they dropped the money. |

You modify THEIR software, it's not THEIR fault when your phone gets bricked, pal. They're covering their asses, just like any other business. If you're dumb enough to screw with your $500 phone, you deserve the consequences if you're not smart enough to prevent them. |

Well, I think we are entering a whole new world of ownership. We just need the right case to take to court to settle the argument.
I think anti trust would be a good place to start for all cell phone companies. It's not like they are selling you the "I Phone" for $ 50.00 with a rebate.
I only need a phone that works like a phone. |

Look at it this way then: you're buying the hardware and using their software. They can alter their software at any time because it's theirs. If you alter their software and they go to alter it again, and it breaks, who's fault is that?
If people don't like how the software is supposed to be used, don't buy the hardware. It's seriously that simple. ~_~ |

If you buy a dell and modify their software they aren't allowed to release an autoupdate that would render all modified computers garbage. I would say it depends on how their 'nuke patch' is setup, if it can be proven that there is software specifically designed to render the unlocked phones inoperable then they could be found liable. However, good luck suing apple and at&t. |

Whir, I think your missing the whole picture.
It is not about people destroying their iPhone themselves, it's about Apple destroying the modified iPhone's on purpose.
If I had an unlocked iPhone and Apple broke it on purpose with an update, I'd definitely file a lawsuit.
Apple is one of the worst companies I have ever seen. |
