Mozilla Responds to Google Chrome Performance Claim

While Google is touting the superior JavaScript performance of its newly released Chrome web browser, Mozilla quickly responded with SunSpider benchmarks demonstrating the impressive prowess of its own upcoming Firefox 3.1 browser release.

Firefox 3.1, which Mozilla hopes to release by the end of the year, comes with JavaScript acceleration technology called TraceMonkey. In Mozilla's test that pitted TraceMonkey-enhanced Firefox against the Chrome beta, Google's browser was 28 percent slower on Windows XP and 16 percent slower on Windows Vista.

Recent Firefox 3.1 development builds (currently Minefield trunk) have implemented the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, which considerably changes the game. TraceMonkey is the intermediate step towards Tamarin.

The problem I see with Chrome is it's a bit too stripped down for me.

Ran Chrome in VMware and didn't find it fast at all! Maybe it was due to VMware.. I'm not changing anytime soon.. In the words of Hillary. "No way, no how, no Chrome"....
