    GTX 275 Confirmed!

Nvidia has made up its mind over the final brand of the new performance card. The card will be known as Geforce GTX 275 and it is based on GT200 55nm chip.

The card has 633MHz core, 1404MHz shaders, 2322 MHz memory. It comes with 896MB memory and it has 240 shaders and 448-bit memory interface. It should be selling for about $250 for a reference cards but we would not be surprised to see cards that are more expensive at launch.
Since the boxes are printed or are being printed, it is now too late for any brand change and Nvidia believes that GTX 275 should do well on market. This card should beat 4890 in many test, at least this is what our sources believe.

The launch should be scheduled for April 6th.

    huh?

    GTX 275? 896MB, 240 SP's?

so whats so damned different between that and the current 285?

wasn't that the specs for the 285? (half of the 280 & half of the 260)

    I don't get it?

hell I haven't even heard anything about the Radeon 4890 yet?

The 275 is supposed to be half of the 295. The 4890 is just an oced 4870.

Either way still better than an onboard GPU like I have.

well I get that, (except if I remember right the 295 uses the larger process chips the original 280/260 used), but this 275 uses the smaller 55nm core.

either way, the memory & SP count is the same as the 285 (also 55nm)? so is it just slower clocked & costing $100 less? or is there something else different?

I don't think they have 250s for $99 at newegg. Or are they calling the 9800 the 250 now.

    9800GTX+ = GTS250
250 is slightly faster. They are going for ~$130.. They are worth it.

I want a 275. And the 260 I got is still good for step it up from evga, so there may be one for me in the near future.

I'd be waiting in line also for that step up. These sound like they are gonna be awesome cards for the price.

Well I would like to see some side by side numbers, but in the end I just got the 260 like 3 weeks ago, without realizing that it was the 192 core, not the 216, so I want to do the step up anyways, and if the 275 is going to come in where the 260 is currently priced, seems like it will have a strong appeal.

And not to mention, 175 pounds sounds really expensive (I think that comes out around $350USD).

Pitted for direct competition with ATI Radeon HD 4890, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 275 is slated for launch in April. The new SKU already has a listing by European retailer DollarShops.eu, where it is priced at 249 Euro. Yet another $1 = €1 equation in the making, as $249 is expected to be its American MSRP.

This time around, NVIDIA leaves it to the partners to make and sell graphics cards based on the GPU. Technically boards supporting the GeForce GTX 260 with its 14 memory chips, should be able to support the new GPU, which has 240 stream processors, while having a 448-bit wide GDDR3 memory interface, coming with memory capacities of 896 MB or even 1792 MB, if partners choose.

ok, so, NOW things are getting really confusing with Nvidia's entire lineup...

so the GTX 275 will be a direct competitor to the 4890... an overclocked 4870, so where does that leave the GTX 285?

The 285 is technically faster then both, but not by much if your talking about the 4890.

But from everything that's getting "leaked" still, it sounds like Nvidia is still holding out on the best core they have. Rumor is ATI is whipping up a 4890x2 to take the performance crown, and that's when Nvidia is gonna drop either a 285x2 variant, or the new uber core.

IDK though, the more you read, the more confused you get. lol

    LOL, ya think?

It really started with the G80 cards, 320MB/640MB 8800GTS, then we had the G92 versions, 256MB/512MB 8800GTS, then on to the 9800GTX same as the 8800GTS with very minor improvements. then we had the 8800GS based on the G92, then they came out with the 9600GSO, the same exact card, then the 8800GT/9800GT twins... the 9800GTX eventually moved to the 9800GTX+ which we now have also as the GTS 150/250 twins.

GTS 250 is the same as the OEM variant GTS 150, both are the same as a 9800GTX+...

then we had the GTX 260 & GTX 280, the original 260 had 192 Stream Processors, the 280 had 240...

then they had to come out with the 216 Stream Processor GTX 260...

    Phew!!! not done yet...

then they came out with the GTX 295 which is the "GX2" version of the GTX260/280 core based cards...

also came out the GTX 285, a smaller process chip made to replace the "old" GTX 280... they also quietly supposedly made the transition of the GTX 260 216SP model to 55nm as well...

Now, to add more confusion, they have this GTX 275, that for all intents & purposes seems to have the same specs as the GTX 285, with exception of maybe clock speeds, and price wise, looks poised to replace the GTX 260 line altogether...

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then there is the rumored GTX 285 Dual GPU card... but also there is now going to be the GTX 295 revision putting both GPU's on a single board, aside from that specs are exactly the same as the "sandwich" version...

    DAMN!!!

When is this madness going to stop?

this isn't even including the lower end cards with the GT/GTS moniker added to them, below the GTS 250 cards.

also I should have to point out the CUDA/TESLA cards either, or the Quadro's? Right?

despite all this, the most irritating part of it all, is as far as SLI goes, NONE of these different variants with the exception of the 9800GTX+, GTS 150 and GTS 250, can br run together in SLI. unlike ATI's Crossfire, which you can run any combination of card as long as its from the same family/series.
