i5 to launch Sept. 6?
Techtree.com India > News > Consumer Electronics > Intel to Launch Core i5, Core i7 CPUs in Sept
And here's the kicker.Intel is being rumored to debut Nehalem based Core i5 processors codenamed as Lynnfield on Sept. 6. The sources in the Taiwanese motherboard industry state that Intel will also began shipping two new Core i7 processors in September. Intel was rumored to launch Core i7 950 and Core i7 975 Extreme processors on May 31 but these CPUs didn't arrive as anticipated.
A new socket and even better. All three processors will have couple of things in common like the new Socket LGA 1156, support for DDR3 1333/1066 memory and Thermal Design Power rating of 95 watts each.
Intel Core i5 processor 2.66GHz with 8MB L3 cache which can be overclocked to 3.2GHz and will feature Intel Socket LGA 1156. This quad-core processor will be offered at price of $196 (Rs. 9,400 approx.) per tray of 1000 CPUs.Last edited by cksboy15; July 22nd, 2009 at 09:55 PM.

whoa!!!????
wha???
their releasing i7's on the new 1156 socket now too? (WHY? i7 is already on Socket 1366, why release it for 1156? thought that was supposed to be exclusively i3 and i5?)
I swear every time I read these updates, they keep changing what and how their going to be releasing this stuff?
seriously though, I love my 1366 i7 and its performance, but if Intel can't get their act straight with these platforms and planned releases and what not (bad enough their renaming a bunch of the Socket 775 CPU's to better reflect the naming scheme of the current i7's and future i5's, aka i3's, but now to be releasing "exclusive" "enthusiast" i7's on the lower level Socket 1156 platform? BULLSH*T!!!)
and from that chart, the ONLY benefits is HyperThreading and slightly faster clock speeds, thats all, so why even name it i7, just keep the i5 name tacked on with a higher rating.
now its just going to make things even more annoying in future assisting others, because we'll have to verify whether their running a Socket 1366 or Socket 1156 i7 when their systems are having problems.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

The site is still hosed for me. In other news, it's still 78° here. It's supposed to hit 100° tomorrow.
