Core i3, Core i5 Dual-Core Processor Model Numbers Surface

Just weeks ago, there was recent news on Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors coming to the market in Q1 2010. Unfortunately, little information was known about them, aside from the fact that both Core i3 and Core i5 will be mainstream processors. However, recent information, including projected prices as well as some of the processor's model numbers, have surfaced.
    -snip-
The line up, as of right now, stands:

    * Core i3 530 -2.93 GHz
    * Core i3 540 -3.06 GHz
    * Core i5 650 -3.20 GHz, with Turbo Boost speed of 3.43 GHz
    * Core i5 660 -3.33 GHz, with Turbo Boost speed of 3.60 GHz
    * Core i5 670 -3.43 GHz, with Turbo Boost speed of 3.73 GHz
    Source
They even give prices in the source link!

    EDIT: More info

Nope, I think I'm sticking with my V8 and massive CFM fan. From the leaked reports, 5Ghz should be very doable with a good air cooler.
(can't say I won't do the canned air trick on the HSF for benchs though)

    So far...
They are releasing quad core i5 1156 chips, quad core i7 1156 chips, and quad core i7 1366 chips, with hyperthreading. But they haven't leaked/released to much info on those yet.

I'm just happy we get a turbo button back!

So did intel push back the release date then?

Just weeks ago, there was recent news on Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors coming to the market in Q1 2010.
thought they were supposed to be out end of last month, to some time in September?

Yes. At first they were saying that Core i5 would be here by this summers end, but then got pushed back after some minor problems at TSMC.
It's worked out, and suppose to be out at the beginning of the year.

LOL, well there goes those plans...

looks like I might be doing an AMD upgrade to the 2nd system after all. though I've been toying with the idea of an nvidia ION based Dual core Atom system... downside, over all performance wouldn't be any different than the current E2140 system. (same clock speeds, better Intel Dual core, ION's 9400GT chip would/should be less powerful than the old 2600 pro that was in the E2140 system, etc)

and looks like any ION based netbooks will be in same price range as budget range laptops, kind of defeating the point of the ION based netbooks unless you need something that small.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't buy a core i7 However, will core i7 be better suited for crossfire/sli rigs and the i5 for single card rigs? Leaves me lots to ponder about how my next upgrade will go.

both should be fine for SLI/Crossfire, just that I think the i7 LGA1366 platform has greater bandwidth/processing ability is all.

basically your top end niche market, where as 1155 (1156, whatever it is), will be the mainstream platform.

sort of similar to previous gen LGA775's standard Core 2 Duo/Quad vs Extreme Edition Dual and Quads.

was thinking of seeing how much the i5's were going to be, with HT and all, and thought about doing a "minor" Mobo/CPU/RAM upgrade for the 2nd system.

but with this news, looks like an AMD upgrade is in the works now. debating to skimp and go/stay Dual core, or go Triple/Quad? (extra cores on the network come in handy for 3D graphics software I have) either way, it'd be a mATX Mobo/CPU upgrade mainly, using same DDR2 RAM I have now, maybe throw in a 2nd 2GB stick at most.

P55 chipset will have 16x 8x 4x lanes, so in theory a X58 chipset would be better for multi GPU setups. But with that said, I really doubt you'd notice that much difference between the 2. (mostly in benchmarks if anywhere)

And Shy, I'd still hold out. The performance of the better I5's is extremely close to the i7's, and that alone is worth it to me. Saving money and getting near the performance!

I agree. I think an i5 upgrade is in the works for me. Looking at vid cards as we speak.

Well my 2 cents worth, have an i7 now and would like to keep everything the same. Unless there is a very significant savings ( they would have to give away stuff ) or a great leap in performance over the i7 then will just stay with the i7 and i9 when it comes out.

Why bring out the i7 whose prices have come down and you can find them on sale for < $130 ( Micro Center last month ) then bring out a lesser chipset that isn't even compatable? This should just drag the price of the i7 down more.

The older i7's should be faster than any i5 coming out for a while. Won't be faster than the new i7's or i9, but it shouldn't be major. i9 is probably going to be $1200 for the cpu (basically, the Extreme Edition).

Problem with the i7 is the mobo's are so expensive. I'd expect i5 mobos to be $80-240, and cpu's will probably be $80-350 (once the i5 quads are out).

for time being I might look into that Sempron you posted about earlier today.

would be a simple CPU/Mobo upgrade to hold me over till next spring then.

I am intending on a Nvidia build for next spring though for the 2nd system, nothing to replace what i have now for the i7/GTX285 rig (though may look into a better Mobo for the system next spring too), but something that I'll be able to use for Folding (beefy PSU new case, and at least 2 or 3 PCIE slots for lower to mid range (9600/9800 range) cards).

might look into the i5's then.

found a nice Coolermaster case similar to what i had recently, nifty nvidia theme to it.

    NV 334 - Cooler Master

not too big, enough for what I'm intending.

See how things go, who knows, the current Qpack system with the E2140/mobo and maybe the Radeon 4830 (if I get around to resolving its overheating issue, still haven't done that), could be a TIMO DC contest giveaway next spring

but we'll have to see how next springs upgrades for that system go.

    More info out!

In June, HEXUS brought you the news that Intel was expanding the Intel Core brand by adding Core i5 and Core i3 to its Core i7 offerings, with the three brands now referring to entry-level, mid-range and extreme performance Intel Core processors respectively.
We then estimated, based on information available at the time, how this new naming system would tally with existing and future families of processor. Now the table below shows all the new information we've received, including some price cuts to models already available.
