    Atom a 'No Show' for MID Marketplace?

     
    The Intel Atom processor family practically dominates the netbook market, but where are the litany of even smaller mobile devices once destined to receive the low-power x86 chip?

    Try to buy an Atom-based mobile Internet device (MID) or ultramobile PC (UMPC). Seriously, try Froogle or Pricegrabber and see if you can find an Atom-based MID or UMPC in stock anywhere.

    In an attempt to answer my own question, it would seem chipset power utilization is likely the primary current road block to widespread Atom deployment for MID devices. Intel would probably benefit greatly from an Atom-based, low-power SoC (system on chip) model, which could reportedly be ready for mass production later this year at TSMC. More info:
