OCZ Previews SSD Garbage Collection
OCZ solid state drives using the Indilinx controller will soon benefit from active garbage collection to clear leftover data from memory cells during idle time, and Hot Hardware has preliminary benchmarks to demonstrate the technique.
Quote:
When a cell is unused, data can be written to it relatively quickly. But if a cell already contains some data--no matter how little, even if it fills only a single page in the block--the entire block must be re-written.

Expect similar solutions from other SSD manufacturers in the near future.

Speaking of OCZ SSD drives, the company plans to ship a 1TB model later this month.
Quote:
But unlike the Vertex, the new Colossus drive comes with two or four controllers depending on the capacity, and can be configured for internal RAID 0 for increased performance.

Now they are getting rid of the bugs I am more inclined to getting one or two SSD's.

True, but I'd still wait on some of the newer Intel drives that are coming out. The controller they're using is supposed to be MUCH better then the current models.
(even though I have no idea what's wrong with the current models)
