New attack now cracks WPA in under a min

We all knew it was only a matter of time.

New attack cracks common Wi-Fi encryption in a minute - Network World

Computer scientists in Japan say they've developed a way to break the WPA encryption system used in wireless routers in about one minute...

The attacks only works on WPA systems that use the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) algorithm. They do not work on newer WPA 2 devices or on WPA systems that use the stronger Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm.

Suppose it is time to migrate my home WiFi LAN to AES anyway. I have been using TKIP for quite awhile due to a backwards compatibility issue with my Palm LifeDrive, which I rarely even use these days.

Yeap, and that statement probably describes a substantial percentage of commercial and government WiFi networks currently in use.

The question is will the attack vector remain a proof of concept, or will it eventually enter the wild?

Im running WPA+AES at home on the netgear and macbook pro. Now that I think about it, I believe most of the laptops that our techs have (and the schools that actually have a full wireless implementation) might support it. Ill look into it tomorrow, the biggest problem is our wireless carts. All they do is mac address filtering
