AFAIK, you can build whatever type of building on whatever type of street. I loaded up my streets with a mix of the big buildings and smaller houses, and it worked fine. Off my main street in town, I get almost 10mill a day.
Now I did notice that there is a difference between actual cost of the building per the rent it brings in. I found the sweet spot on the 400k and 500k buildings. I've built 1 expensive building, and if I could I'd wipe it and build some other cheaper ones.

I've added those I've spotted above, I'm "Nude Lewd Man" - the same as here, but with spaces instead of underscores, as it only accepts alphanumerics and spaces...

It does make a bit of a difference regarding the type of building, but only in as much as whether there is sufficient space for the building - often, and especially with the larger buildings, it takes up more than the space allocated by the cones.... I have a few small streets and one could only take the smallest ("Green House"??) of all the properties, everything else got a message like

or otherwise it would just mean that the next building wouldn't be able to go on where there was a cone adjacent to the other property...

Oh, and the biggest I've ever been able to build/buy is the 600,000 castle thing... All the other options (to the right of this) are greyed out, although I have seen them elsewhere, and I know not how the stadia are aquired....

Stadiums and parks are acquired by chance cards. The same goes for the sabotage buildings.
I built one million dollar building so far, and it will probably be the last one I build. And you can get those once you "level up". I'm a lvl 2 as of today, and I'm guessing tomorrow I'll move up to lvl 3. The higher levels you are, the more stuff is opened up to buy.

Tried to but it wouldn't let me clear a hazard that is on a street I don't own. Who put it there, I have a prision and a sewage plant to build. Just won't build them on someone from here.

^Same here. I have 2 chance cards that allow me to bulldoze any building, but it won't let me do it to sabotaged buildings for some reason.
IDK who I wanna pick on though..

Can you keep hold of the chance cards to use at a later date, or do they have to be used straightaway?

I was curious to know about that, from what I remember (from the original) is that you have the choice to use it or discard it....
