Microsoft Cancels Windows 7 Family Pack Offer

According to a notice on its web site, Microsoft has apparently dropped its Windows 7 'Family Pack' promotional program. The pack, comprised of three OS upgrade licenses for about $150, was originally marketed as a limited time offer when launched in October. Still, many consumers are less than thrilled by Microsoft's decision, which coincided with the start of the holiday shopping season.

Unsurprisingly, the timing is fueling speculation that Microsoft is trying to maximize revenue from holiday season sales of Windows 7. Since software is a virtually infinite resource, many consumers are wondering why Microsoft couldn't have just increased Windows 7 Family Pack supply to avoid a holiday season shortage.
