Intel 800mhz FSB

In an effort to make its Pentium chips run even faster, Intel likely will release a new chipset, or bus, for Pentium 4 PCs in the next few months, according to industry insiders. Dubbed "Springdale," the new chipset will have a bus speed of 800 MHz -- markedly faster than Pentium's current top bus speed of 533 MHz.

Diana Wilson, a public relations manager for Intel, told NewsFactor she could not comment on Springdale's specifications ahead of its official launch date. "I can't confirm it, but it's safe to say we're working on more advanced products that extend the gap between ourselves and competitors," she said.

Chip industry observers say the Springdale chipset, which is expected to debut in a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4, will increase data flow rates by as much as 5 percent.

Now that is one fast CPU!

But I bet you could slap a 533 mhz chip in one of these chipsets and overclock the beans out of it...

Wow, rock on. That's weird though, I would figure that much of an increase in one of the bottlenecks would net more than a wee little 5%.

Can't wait to see it hit mainstream.

Think the P4 3.06 GHz will drop much in price when the new 3.2 comes out?
