I'll put it on my list of "to download". I'm happy with spybot...well I sort of had to get happy with it because ad aware never updated. |

Same here
I just ran AAW5 and Spybot before running AAW6 and it caught 2 things the other ones didn't.
Seems to scan faster, but I'm not sure if its my imagination. |

I use to use Adaware, til I found out that them not having any updates is risking my computer to lots of problems, after that I switched to Spybot and I am using them for now, Adaware dropped the ball in my opinion.

Didn't Lavasoft do a complete rewrite of the code for Adaware during the period that they weren't releasing updates?

I thought thats what AAW 6 was, which is why I posted it as a news post. It offers a little more functionality, but at the core of what AAW needs to do, it hasnt changed much, and maybe thats a good thing. I actually think its got a bit too much fluff now.
Programs like this should be simple, straight, and to the point without a bunch of switch and toggles. While its nice on programs you want to customize, for something like adaware and even virusscan and other "cleaners", you just want to tell it what to scan, go do it, and tell it what to do with the infected files when it finds them. It shouldnt do anything else.
It did pluck a few that spybot missed, so I'll give it some credit for that, but that could have easily been done with a RefUpdate, instead of a complete program overhaul. Its nothing BAD, just unnecessary IMO. |

I half agree, half argue with that AuraEdge.
I agree that if all that is changed (from the users point of view) is one or two items, than an update would have been better and faster.
I argue that the overhaul was needed to catch up with the newer tech and software and OS's. THings that updates and patches just weren't up to anymore.
Personally I was expecting alot more than this in performance, and less in the tweakable-ness. The options and bells and whistles are many and various and new. However the "faster" part that I had been looking forward too, along with the active spy blocking (adwatch) were both disappointing.
The faster was if anything only a few percent. And the active blocker is for the full version, not the free download.
All in all though I am happy with this new version. For one thing I noticed that the updater is now built right into the same user interface. Also the ability to schedule tests and updates automatically is a bonus for me. I have several non tech freinds that have me for tech support, and this being automated will help.
Thanx for beating me to the post.... (been trolling thier site for the past week waiting for the release...) |

SpyBot really does need a good English technical writer. There interface is full of grammatical and spelling errors. I do like the description of items found. I figure SpyBot will be the leader with their next update.
Cheers! |
