    Badtrans Worm Continues Spread

We use Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition at my office. We also use Norton Antivirus for E-mail Gateways. This is basically an SMTP server that scans emails before sending them on to our e-mail server. I am the one that is responsible for antivirus measures at my company, so I am the one that gets all the e-mails whenever the viruses are detected in an e-mail.

We have had about 80 messages caught by the antivirus gateway with the Badtrans worm over the last 3 days. None have gotten through.

Activity today seems just as wild as the past couple of days.

We also use Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition. I have had one report of this particular virus thus far. Virus protection is second only to system security on our list of operational priorities (backups are third).

We minimize our risk by using email and network systems which are not as susceptible to virus attacks. We can get them, and sometimes the newer ones get past us and start to do damage, but we've yet to lose anything critical, and to our knowledge have never been able to leave our system.

I guess some people just have nothing better to do!!!!

I guess we have been pretty lucky here so far. (knock on wood) We have not been infected or even seen the virus yet. We use Lotus Notes as our E-mail client so we should be alright.
