Did SD-RAM prices recently go up?

I went out today to buy some RAM. The local stores are advertising typical prices for PC-133 SD-RAM of $20.00 (Canadian) for 128MB, $40.00 for 256MB.

When I get to the store they tell me 128MB is now $30.00 because RAM prices went up. I say I haven't heard anything about prices going up, they insist it's true, so I leave in a huff.

6 stores later... same story at every store. I ended up paying $35.00 +tax (I was too tired to shop any longer) for 128MB PC-133, CL3 that was selling at some places for $16.00 2 weeks ago. I had planned on getting 2x 128MB CL2 @ $25.00 each.

Did I miss something? Did we all? You'd think with all the combined tech newsletters, forums, tech help and overclocking site subscriptions us hardware types have one of us would have heard something about this and posted it somewhere.

Anyone have any links to tech news re: SD-RAM prices on the increase?

    John,
Prices go up and down a lot, but computers are just like anything else. - You can't find a good deal and expect it to stay that low forever, when you find a good deal you have to take advantage of it. (Kind of reminds me almost like the stock market.. If you buy something and the prices drop all you can do is watch, sometimes prices are at record low and you don't take advantage of the deal, that's your loss )
Just gotta wait until prices drop again!

Sure, prices of things fluctuates a little - ya gotta expect it.

What I mean though is such a relatively large jump in price and not a peep about it anywhere? One store advertising 128MB PC-133 CL3 for $16.00 now wants $30.00, that's up $14.00 literally overnight. The place where I eventually bought from had an in-store price of $49.00 but they came down to $35.00 after I complained (a $30.00 hike and I never heard about it? That's b.s. IMO) They said prices went up 2 weeks ago. In 2 weeks I'm sure it would be reported here or places like TechTV.

When RAM prices were dropping it was plastered all over the net, you'd think that if prices were on an upswing it would be reported somewhere.

I suspect that this price increase is local, i.e: the 1 or 2 local wholesalers jacked up the price to local resellers because they weren't making any money at current prices.

I was hoping to find out if prices were going up in other cities/countries as well. Is it just in my area or have prices gone up everywhere else too?
