I wonder if they will replace it in the future with another super-sonic jet of some description, or live with the 747's..? |

The only thing they saved was time. Apparently that was enough for some folks to be willing to pay outrageous fares. Even the "special deals" BA is talking about are unbelievably expensive.

I heard that those things are aren't allowed to land in most airports because the sonic boom is so loud.
I wonder how it compares to a Space Shuttle landing at Edwards Airforce Base.

27 years ain't that bad... considering the mechanical stresses this bird takes.
And, uhm, chris.... no plane ever lands while it is still flying so fast as to be breaking the sound barrier. Flying over cities is about the only time the concorde can cause a sonic boom near an airport. |

I would have liked to fly on it once.
It *is* pretty amazing that nobody else bothered to come up with any competition or improvements in the 27 years it was flying. |
