not a bad idea, but i think they could make it more plausable by maybe using a low end amd (duron 950 maybe?) and a regular crt and keep the price around 500 or 600 bucks. it would most likely be a better sell for the 13-18 ageset, who are mtv's bread and butter when it comes to programming and advertising... |

Well the age they are shooting for again is 18-24 but I still see what you are saying because college kids don't have that kind of money to spend. |

it's not that. i dunno, i'm in that age range and if i saw an mtv pc, i'd think it'd be something that'd appeal more to the younger kids who watch mtv 24/7... |

I'm in that range and I wouldn't consider paying that much. But my opinion is biased since I'm a builder. I think storm2k is on to something here though. All it needs to be is a media-based PC. It doesnt need the XP+ to be that. It would get by just fine on a Duron, w/ sdram and a 70-100 GF2 vid card. SB audigy or turtle beach card. Descent speaker setup. Priced at about 700-800. |

Yes, I think they are aiming for kids that aren't heavy into computers and just want a machine they can play games and chat on. |

I heard many things about MTV yet I didn't check if our TVs can get it here.
I agree the machine could easily be cheaper and weaker. All it will ever do is play mp3s and run a chat program. |

There is one reason why the specs are what they are.
Marketing.
AMD is aiming to market their processors to the younger age group. If they can get this age group hooked on their processors through MTV then that's what they'll do. Take cigarettes for instance, the majority of smokers have smoked the same brand for years. AMD is hoping that the same trend will happen for them.
As well, 18-24 year old's with money, or should I say their parents, want the best for their children, and this is exactly what this rig will deliver.
My 0.02 cents |

That's true willy, good thing I am already hooked on AMD and know that I can make a rig like that cheaper. |
