Computer reboots right after shutdown

I have a computer running winXP that when you shut it down it goes threw the normal prosses but when it shuts down it reboots right away instead of turning off. I just hit the powerbutton while it's going threw the POST but it's rather anoying.

It's my girlfriends computer, and the only thing that happened before this started was her uncle tried to view some pictures on a disk, and downloaded some software. But the software and everything is removed, AVG's scanned it many times, Adaware/spybot run clean.

I'm not even sure where to look to fix it.

Some Spec's:
PIII 800Mhz
128MB Ram
Dell

Any help appreciated.

start with control panel, power options.

Choose a power scheme, note the choices for delay in turning off:

Monitor
Hard disks
system standby

Then tic the advanced tab

Select "shut down" in the When I press the powerbutton on my computer.

The sleep button is also a choice. Might be a hot key on your keyboard, decide on your personal preference.

I personally do not enable hibernation, I just power down and reboot when I am away for a day or so.

In BIOS setup, power management section, try disabling Wake on Modem/LAN and PME Event Wakeup if you have those settings.

More info here and here.

Hope something here helps.
