Question
Comp randomly fails to boot?

Ok, my computer is a bit stuffy.. after a motherboard incident my computer will suddenly either freeze or fails to boot. After switchin it off and tryin it on again after a few times it boots up properly (with Windows etc.)

I had the 'replaced' motherboard checked out and its perfectly fine, so what would be causing this? Sometimes I can play for an hour or so in games and it doesn't seem to crash. I'm suspecting it may be a power supply problem.. but my Antec should have circuit/overload protection when I kinda 'short-circuited' the board (installed a floppy disk drive while it was running).

Could RAM also be a factor too? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Main Specs:
AMD XP 2500+
2xKingmax PC3200 DDR RAM
2x80GB Western Digital HDD
Antec TruePower 330 PSU
Abit NF7-S v2 Motherboard

Btw, PSU readings seem to be fine as most of the voltages seem to be stable close to the designated voltage. Only the +12V seems to be a bit off.. hovering at around 11.8?

Antec is good stuff, but 330 watt may be borderline.

You didn't mention the vid card, which is also a power hog.

calculate your power use here

Also, read the manual under voltage control. It may have a manual setting to shut down if voltages vary + 10%, 15%, etc.

Try blowing the dust out of the power supply. Dust builds heat, which robs apmerage.

This stuff is practically brand new though and the computer was working perfectly fine (could run for hours under full load etc.) until the short-circuit/overloading incidient and has been playing up since..
