Flashing the BIOS on an IBM Thinkpad 760EL

I've got an IBM Thinkpad 760EL. It has CDROM but no floppy. It was bought used. I'm having problems getting a new network card to work. It's running Windows 98SE, and it tells me that the device must be enabled through the BIOS. I've gone through the BIOS and don't see anything about enabling anything. I've gone to 3Com's website (Manufactuer of network card). They recommend flashing the BIOS. I've downloaded the flash to my desktop computer, but there is no floppy for the Thinkpad. My desktop has a DVD burner. Is it possible to burn it to a CD and then copy it to the laptop and flash it from there?

If you can use a bootfloppy image, and create a bootable cd, then perhaps it is possible.

The setting they must be referring to, is the pcmcia setting in bios.
It's either cardbus16bit or auto-selected, try both

The BIOS is very out of date. It will not allow to boot from the CDROM. The only thing that I have seen is that it will allow you to boot from a token-ring 16 bit card. There is no options that will allow you to adjust anything except the boot order. It's called Easy-Setup. It has the following icons. Config Date/Time Password Start Up and Test. Config has Memory Systemboard and Initialize. Memory and Systemboard give you system information. Initalize just says OK? I've tried that numerous times.

I can access the CDROM through DOS. This would have been a lot better had I gotten the removable floppy that originally came with this.
