    Compaq 5716 not starting

     
    Hello all I am happy to have found this forum. I have a big problem and can't figure out how to fix it. I have a 5716 which is a PIII 450 with 512ram in it. It has a HP CDR and an ATI TV/Video board in it. The original HD was dying so I put another in and it was working fine. Then one day it started to mess up with 98mill in it. I previously had XP pro on it but can't get anything to load on it now. I get a black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left corner. Also I tried to install Windows XP from scratch and it will only go through a couple steps then stops at Windows is now starting.. Any suggestions will help me...

    First try here. This list is the software that HP has for your Compaq. First I would try the drive wipe program, then the romPaq program. Welcome to TechIMO.
