scandisk problems

Hi

When I'm running scandisk it completes to the end of "phase 2", but then it says "Windows cannot complete disk check". Why is this?

Running WinXP Home.

Have you tried running chkdsk in the recovery console or safe mode?

You say 'scandisk'... are you using FAT32 or NTFS format?..scandisk cannot be used with NTFS...chkdsk is scandisk modified to be used with NTFS.

oh okay..that's all it says, nothing more. And I've got NTFS, not FAT32...so that's probably the problem with scandisk. I ran chkdsk and it fixed some entries...and then I think it stops after verifying indexes...I'll try it in safe mode and see if it works.

Hello,

I am having trouble with scandisk. When I access it I am able to scan approximately 85%. It gets to the area where it says it is scanning files and folders. It then will stop. The yellow light on the cpu will flash on and off each second but scandisk will not go any further than that. I left it alone for 10 minutes and the yellow light was still flashing and scandisk hadn't continued any further. Tried safemode. It did the same thing there also. Thought I could just defrag but of course it says there are errors and I need to run scandisk before defragging. Also have tried emptying out temp files, deleted cookies, and deleted history. It still won't work. Any ideas?

Thanks, Mike
