| Computer turns off after 10-15 seconds
Backstory: I hooked up a printer this morning. serial port crap. I think it was too much plugged into one sockage at first; when i did a test print the first time the computer turned off but all the lights were still on and glowing.
so i turned off the power and back on and booted and everything was good. about 5 minutes later same thing. rebooted... 2 minutes later..same thing..rebooted. It shuts off about 10-15 seconds from boot.
Any ideas
(the DPS thingie sticking out is kinda wiggly... Has a metal frame around it. tried seating it..but i dont thing that works...is that normal?)
I'm guessing it's a hardware problem.. maybe the processor is crap?
mobo: K7 Trinitron 7NNxp
Processor: AMD 3200+ barton. |

Probably parallel port?
If you unhook the printer does everything work ok?

yes. ran great
Not sure if it's a heat problem. the mobo box has a badly translater CPU heat recovery thing that states it will shut off immedaitly if it overheats..
I dont know what i did.. unplugged alot and plugged it back it back in in god knows what order and it's staying on... but not really doing anything.. all the thinking lights( if i can call them that?) are pretty constant.. no picture on the monitor |

it sounds like the powersupply is inadaquate
yes try unhooking the printer from the computer if that works you probobally need a new powersupply
if that dosent work try unplugging it from the surge protector/powerstrip and the computer if that does work then you need a new surge protector
EDIT: shoot i'm slow
you may have screwed up the power supply some how by overloading it....do you have another you could test it with

I tried with the UPS and without the UPS.. all the same effect. I unplugged things one by one to see if it was a bad power supply.. and it still did it..
It ran great for about 2 weeks then this? (400watt power) |

I'm leaning more towards a problem with the loose parallel port, where it is mounted on the board. Everything was fine until you connected the printer to it. I don't see how a defective power supply would show up because a printer is connected. Look in the bios and see if it shows the cpu temp. Something in the area of 40-50 degrees centigrade would be ok. |

Open the case and see if the fan on the cpu spins up when you start the pc. If the fan is working I would be looking at taking the machine apart and trying to boot it with the bare minimum of parts, cpu, cpu fan, ram, video card and see what happens. If possible try another power supply. |
