| Dual boot stoped working
I had my computer set up as follows:
one hard drive with two partitions. Win 98 SE on the first partition and Win XP Pro on the second. We basicly always used the XP. Every time I restarted the computer gave me the choice of which OS to boot from.
Now, all of a sudden, I don't get that choice and the damn thing automaticly boots into Win 98. I can still get to the drive with the XP on it to access files and such, but I want to start up into XP.
At this point I'm willing to get rid of 98 and the partitions, and just go with one partition win XP on it, but will be happy to just go back the way it was when it worked.
Advice to correct the problem either way without loss of data (i.e. wipe the drive clean and re-install) would be great.
Thank you all who respond.

No, but I think Norton might have messed up my boot.ini file or something like it. I remember seeing a warning that Norton found my boot file was modified and asked me what I wanted to do. I think I might have click on "restore my boot file" or something like that. |

you will most likely have to go to the msconfig file and input the dual boot text in the boot.ini

uuuuh, I don't have the book with me right now but go to start->run and type msconfig. In there you should find the boot.ini file/tab. Look at it and see if it lists both OS's. |

in your case though, I think under the listing for [operating systems] you should see your windows 98 in there plus the xp that I have listed.
which was your default before? if it was 98 then that would be first and then xp would follow.
check and see if this is how it looks and let me know.
I will holla at you later since I'm trying to watch a movie right now, have faith son!
