Angry Windows media player - Plays video but not music

    Running XP Pro....

When I try to play a song (mp3) from my windows media library, I get a message that an unknown error has occurred and the program closes down. It pays video's, but when it's done with the video, the same thing happens, sometimes.

    Any suggestions?

A flakey soundcard can cause a lot of strange problems. Sounds like your soundcard (or driver) is misbehaving when it is released. Try reloading the drivers for the sound card. If that doesn't help, try another sound card.

I recommend re-installing DirectX and Window Media Player, both available from Microsoft's website. You likely have a corrupted codec or DirectShow-related file.

    Hope this helps,

I don't have a soundcard, as mine is built into the mobo.

I did a sytem restore that got rid of the last Media Player update. I then updated Media Player with a fresh download and that seems to have cured the problem. Thanx for your suggestions.
