| HELP!! New PC build not booting!
Alright, i started building a new computer, here are the specs.
- Intel 865GBF Motherboard
- Pentium 4 processor at 3.0Ghz Hyperthread 800Mhz FSB
- 2x256 MB Kingston 3200 Dual Channel Memory
- Using old 80 GB Seagate HD
- ATI 9600 SE 128 MB Graphics Card
- Using Stock 350 Watt PSU given with case.
My problem is that i have everything hooked up. I start up my computer for the first time, and nothing shows up on my monitor. I've tried it with my 15" flat panel LCD, and my old CRT monitor and both the same thing happens. Nothing even shows up like a "no signal."
I've taken out the Videocard numerous times, replaced it with an old NVIDIA stock videocard too and still get no response from either monitors.
Everything seems to turn on when i press the power switch, fans start spinning, i believe i hear either the CD-rom or HD starting up (even though HD shouldnt or CD-rom shouldnt matter with the monitor problem at hand.)
I have no clue what to do, someone please help me! |

Welcome to the forum!
Have you tried reseating the memory?
---
If that doesnt work..usually the next step is to unplug all the cables and try it with just the cpu/heatsink, one stick of ram, video card....in other words unplug all the ide/floppy cables from the board...unplug the power cords to the optical drives and hard drives......if it doesnt work there...then you might have to try it with the motherboard back out of the case to see if the motherboard isnt somehow shorting on the case.
----
do you have any spare parts?? Maybe you could try another power supply in case that one is bad.
When you plug it in does the power come on by itself or do you have to hit the power button?? Sometimes if the motherboard is shorting on the case it will "come on" by itself but the video never kicks on etc.

Did you make sure to plug in the 4-Pin power supply connector to the motherboard?
Maybe your power supply didn't come with one and you overlooked it, but that's the connector that supplies power to the CPU, otherwise, it will start up like you say, but never post. I've had it happen to me before... heh. |

thanks for the replies. I took out all IDE plugs ect. and took the motherboard out of the case. I have it on an anti-static wrap ontop of the case.
I first tried testing it out of the case with just the video card, one stick of memory (256) and the CPU/Heatsink. i DO have the 4 pin connector from the PSU to the powersupply in. Once i started it up i still got no monitor, but this time got 3 long beeps.
I thought it was the PSU so i tried using my old sony vaio PSU. put on the adapters same as the new PSU and tried it, still nothing.
I also tried putting in my old PC2100 sony vaio memory to see if it was the memory, but still getting the three long beeps.
im going crazy here. please someone help. |

Hmm... I don't think I know the answer to your problem.
The only thing that I could possibly think of would be if your video card needs to have a seperate power supply plug plugged in, but last I knew, 9600 cards didn't use those.
Could just be a bad board... Who knows. anyone have any other ideas? |

there is no extra power connector on the video card?
u put in an old video card....if the new board is 8x...maybe the old card is too old to work....8x wont work with 1x cards...Im not sure about 2x cards. |
