Exclamation page found where no page expected in the execution of ntoskrnl.exe (paraphrased)

I am gettin an error simiar to the one above on my p c with windows 2000. It prevents me from booting up i can not even get to safe mode. I have removed the drive adn put it in another computer as a slave to make modifications as necessary.

What seems to be the right solution?

Is this a problem with the pagefile.sys?
if so can i just delete pagefile.sys or delete the contents?

Or is there a different problem?

    Yes ..

Yes it is an option however I cracked my windows 2000 disk in half and do not have another readily available and was hoping that emptying or replacing the pagefile.sys might get rid of what seems to be a paging related error. Now that I have the drive slaved to another windows 2000 system I am considering replacing file that finds the error and also emptying, replacing the pagefile.sys

I once had a "pagefile.sys" error that occured on a partition with a physical defect... the computer would spend a lot of time trying to read a section of HD that had an obvious error... you could hear it thrashing about. Ultimately, I used Partition Magic to change the partition to another (good) section of hard drive, used WinXPPro to relocate the pagefile.sys to another partition, and then repaired the damaged section of hard drive. Maybe something like this is affecting you?

Its NOT a page file or virtual memory problem its PHYSICAL memory.

    Folks,

After i slaved it over to a new machine i thought hmm the drive works fine.. lets try booting this box with this disk and i made it the master totally disconnecting the old master and it booted booted right up. The paging was not paging into virtual memory its actual paging into physical memory (RAM) I will give cleaning the contacts a shot then .. off to the corner store for new memory if that doest work.

    Thanks for the replies.
