GA-7N400PRO2 - AthlonXP Mobo - CD/network/Restart Issue

I have built a computer based on the Gigabyte GA-7N400PRO2 Mobo.

I have also established an ADSL line with Netgear modem.

The mobo has two DVD drives and onboard GLAN.

When the Ethernet cable is plugged in, if I then insert a CD into either drive it causes WinXP Home to launch a fault and restart.

If I leave the CD in the drive, as it reboots into Windows it detects something and then restarts.

If I unplug the Ethernet, the computer works fine...

Now, has anyone experienced this problem before? And are there any solutions or ideas?

Thx

Rohan

I have tried uninstalling the Realtek LAN. And replaced Nvidia drivers with microsoft drivers, but it did not fix the problem.

To be tidy, I have the cables wrapped up in a PET wrap from Cableorganizer...there are 3 cables in one of these tubes: CAT, USB and System Power Cable.

I have been inside the case and replugged all the IDE and power connectors and that did not work...

Thanks

I have tried using a different CAT5.......still problem

I have tried drivers........still a problem

I have reflashed BIOS.......still problem

Next, I will try changing the ADSL modem from CAT5 to USB connection...that should work out...

If that does not work...then it looks like a new modem is required...maybe Dynalink or something.

You said that you put the ethernet card in and it caused your computer to crash? If thats the case, you have a defective card. Get a new one. If you CAN connect thru the USB, then it is the card, otherwise, I would see if you can log into the netgear modem/router? Assuming it is a router.

The gig LAN is on-board/integrated...

But I have considered that it may be damaged in some way.

However, I built it for a customer and when it was connected to my workshop LAN it functioned well.

What are your thoughts?

I have found SOLUTION:

I tested the connection with a Dynalink RTA100 and that did not fix the CD/restart issue...or the frozen "windows is shutting down screen".

I then tried Registry Mechanic in case there was a registry error...still no fix.

I then decided to uninstall one at a time the networking components in the network connection properties.

None of the other components, excluding TCP/IP which couldn't be uninstalled, resulted in a fix.

However, the removal of Client for Windows Networks fixed the problem.

I still manage to get ADSL connectivity etc without this service installed (Windows XP Home) but it solves the two issues I was having before.

This may have something to do with the fact that I connected this computer into my domain's switch to get ADSL for updates etc prior to delivery. But I cannot be sure of what might have happened there, if anything.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Thanks
