| home built pc disappointment
To my chagrin, I built my own system and as a result,I could really use some help and guidance. I finally accumulated everything I needed for my new system and I have no video. The fans led's etc are working. I've tried a known good video card so I've at least ruled that out. I've checked and rechecked and rechecked again so I'm certain all connections were made correctly.
I made sure the mobo was not grounded and I used a ground strap through the entire process. I also cleaned contacts reseated all plug in components. I'm just lost as to what to do next.
Everything I read says swap out this and that but i'm not a computer store so don't have 2 of every component sitting on a shelf.
All these components were purchased new on Ebay but I really don't want to contact the sellers unless I know that the component they sold me is defective
system consists of
-Intel D865PERL
-P4 2.6C processor retail kit
-matched set of 2 512mb sticks oc pc3200 ddr400 Crucial memory
-PNY GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128mb DDR vid card
-EG365P-VE Enermax 350w power supply
-cd-rom
-cd rw/dvd
-floppy
-120gig Maxtor HDD
Any help would really be appreciated
Thanks

First of all I would start stripped down.
1 stick of RAM.
Video card.
HDD.
Disconnect the CD drives and any other PCI cards.
When you say no video does that include POST also?
Any beeps on startup?

you can't get into bios, so no post, no beeps I assume...no keyboard light...do the fans spin at all? Sounds like the system simply isn't getting _any_ power. Perhaps a bad psu? |

... redo everything. If it dosent work, you ram is bad. (Well, most likely, this is 95% the case when someone builds a pc and it dosent post/show vid) |

also in these situations you can take the motherboard out of the case and see if it will boot that way..because sometimes the motherboard will be accidently touching the case somehow etc.

fans spin fine power led is on, small led right on mobo is on, and did voltage checks on PSU which is brand new. Took it one step further and tried a 300w psu I have sitting around with the same result.

everything has been redone several times now.
Could both sticks of ram be bad? |

perchance did the cpu come seperate, or as a combo, was it shipped in a well packaged box? No/bad cpu can cause fans to spin etc, but no cpu, no way to run bios, post, etc. |
