More than likely you still have a virus on your computer.
Disconnect computer from the Internet.
Reformat and Reinstall OS.
Install Anti Virus Software.
Turn on Windows XP Firewall (only if you have XP)
Connect to the Internet and Update Windows and Anti-Virus Software.

I agree. Don't do ANYTHING on the internet until you have updated.

Since you are here, we assume that "running" means, you are able to use the computer and do everything BUT escape from Windows...
On the off chance that you have come to a situation where nothing is allowing you to work on the computer, but it is stuck somewhere in the middle of shutting down, you do know that you may hit the reset button on the case, or-- hold the power button down for 5 seconds or so to shut the machine down completely.
Just had to mention that for completeness. Some people nowadays have never really had to go to the case except to insert a CD!!

Scan your hard disk using a good virus checking utility to make sure that your boot sector has not been infected with a virus.

best bet is to go to microsofts website and download the blaster patch....and the new sassar patch....burn them to a cd....then just reformat and reinstall again from scratch....do the blaster and sassar patches BEFORE u go online....and when u DO go online..go straight to microsofts site and do the updates.

XP has a restore mode, that must be disabled, then run av in safe mode, reboot, redo.
Note: Restore service obviously keeps a copy of system (with virus) in backup, so you may reinfect.Last edited by websteraaa; May 6th, 2004 at 09:55 PM. Reason: clarification

You are probably infected with Sasser. Simply apply the hotfix from MS, reboot and then run the removal tool they provide. Enabling a firewall wouldn't hurt either.
