Help accessing files on network

I have just setup a wireless network with an office pc connected to a adsl router and a laptop connected up to the router via a wireless AP. It all works well and both computers can access the internet no problems however I now want to setup both computers so they can access each others files.
The office machine runs XP and the laptop runs Win98SE. I have set them both up with the same workgroup name and enabled file sharing on both computers. I left the Ip adresses as obtain automatically as that seems to work for the internet connection.
Im just not sure what else I need to do here.

Are you able to ping each machine?

If you can ping the machines from each other it may be the protocol that is installed.

I recently checked out a network system and was pulling my hair out because the administrator had setup Netbios protocol so the new machine could not be seen.

you also have to tell it what to share after installing file and printer sharing
