Hi everyone, I bought an Athlon XP 2600+ proc for my aging K7T Turbo 2 since I knew that that's the max speed my board supports with the 3.6 BIOS. I put installed the chip, it was recognized as a 2600+ and then proceeded to boot into XP. That's when the fun time ended. I kept getting either blue screens or just random reboots while booting. The blue screen errors were mostly the "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" one.
I decided to backup my drive onto another machine and then re-install xp. I was able to boot the computer into Knoppix v3.3-2004-02-16 and then ftp the files. I then decided to see if the memory was faulty so I ran the memtest utility whille in the text only mode of Knoppix. The memtest went through fine and just for the hell of it I ran Knoppix for a couple of hours to see if anything weird would happen. All seemed well so I tried booting into XP again.....blue screen yet again. Tired, I popped in my XP install cd to re-format the drive and do a clean install. The installer died during the module loading phase with another blue screen (this one without any real data as to why it died).
I am totaly stumped why it's not working. Putting back my 2000+ works just fine (I am typing this on it right now), but the 2600+ does not. Both chips are running at a 266MHz FSB, the vcore diff is .05v (1.6 on the 2000+; 1.65 on the 2600+).
If it helps, the chip ID of the 2600+ is AXDA2600DKV3C.
Anyone have an idea why it's not working with the faster chip?
