| FDISK issues! I need help fast!
Hey, me again.
Ok, I reformatted and made the computer use NTSF system as I thought I was going to be able to put XP on it, but I cannot. So now I have to install ME. BUT! I have it done as NTSF drives, and now have to try and FDISK them and I am having isses.
When I go into FDISK and try and erase the partitions, it comes up like this: C: 1 PRI DOS 9774 MB UNKNOWN SYSTEM 50% USEAGE 2. EXT DOS 9758 MB 50% USAGE
When I go to try and delete the DOS partitions or any of the partitions it tells me: Cannot delete extednded DOS partition while logical drive exists.
No logical drives defined
All logical drives deleted in extended DOS partition
Now, how can I get rod of both drives, so I can repartition and reformat BOTH drives or heck, even make one drive right now?????? I need to try and get this up and running like yesterday and have not had a lot of luck!
HELP ME PLEASE!
Thanks! |

You probably need to remove the "Non-DOS Partitions", should be option 4.
After that, you should be able to rid yourself of the Extended DOS and then the Primary DOS. Then create a new Primary DOS.
You'll also want to 'FDISK /MBR' to get rid of the XP Master Boot Record.

NTFS is seen by the updated FDISK.exe as a non-DOS partition. If there is no mention of a non-DOS partition then you have the old FDISK.exe. I thought ME boot disks would contain the updated FDISK.exe, though.
Anyhow, go to www.bootdisk.com and download the upadted bootdisk with the updated FDISK on it, and use that to reformat the drive to delete the NTFS partition.
Just a question: you are booting with a DOS boot disk to use FDISK, aren't you?
Cheers
Mick

Yes, and that is where the bootdisk came from.
Also, I have tried option 4, which is where the messages start coming from |

Did you try FDISK /MBR, reboot, then run FDISK again? Might help.
Cheers
