Dell 4600 Issues

im trying to fix my friend's dell 4600
he uses xp home, and it was having issues so i reinstalled

i got windows on fine, but when i started to try to install drivers, i started having issues ~

hes got a radeon all in wonder, and the install would crap out on the file:
faulting application aticim.bin, version 6.14.10.3000, faulting module user32.dll, version 5.1.2600.1106, fault address 0x0000da66

radeon all in wonder 9000 pro, and not sure about his other hardware except
P4 3ghz, 512mb ram

another thing is networking, no matter what i do, i cant seem to get networking to work

two systems, one xp pro, this system xp home
crossover cable

i dont know if im doing it wrong because im not used to xp home, or what the deal is, but i cant even ping the other computer from either one, also i got the pro computer to see the home one once, but it still couldnt access it

any ideas welcome.. if i dont figure it out tomorrow we will try dell

Take a look at the network connections on borh computers to see if the firewall is turned on. If so, try turning it off. Same holds true for a third party fw like ZoneAlarm. With ZoneAlarm, you casn also put the local network in the Trusted Zone. That solved my problem.

the firewalls are off on both computers
no third party firewall

it was working before the reinstall, but i dont think there had been any special configurations then

You've got the same workgroup and default login?

Yes make sure your WORKGROUP settings are identical.

By default XP Pro uses "workgroup" and XP Home uses "MShomegroup" (I think)
