Cool
Enticing Problem ;)

Allright First of all the necessary info:

Main: Asus A7V8X -> VIA KT 400
CPU: AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1,7 -> 3,2 Overclocked
Ram: 512 Infineon DDR
Graphics: XFX (Pine) GeForce FX 5700
Disks: 4 (2 SCSI 2 IDE -> Windows and Games are on IDE (same disk))
OS: Windoze XP Pro
DirX: 9.0 b

Problem:
My system worked perfectly well - everything (except the nvidia nview). As I needed the nview for a presentation I formatted the main boot c: in order to reinstall everything. Now that worked all well and I can work with that PC now. The problem is that I just can't play or view ANY DirectX Application. The following thing occurs:

I open a game and play it about 5 Minutes. Then It makes a crack in the sound - The legendary soundloop starts and I just can't do a thing anymore. The whole system is stuck (I guess everyone knows what I'm talking about).

Here is what I tried:
Now I had that problem once before with another computer... There I just forgot to install the VIA AGP Driver. This time I already installed it. So I see no real reason.

- I gave the graphics adapter and CPU more Volts... No work (graphics up to 1.7 and cpu up to 1.7 Vcore)
- I put the CPU back to its original Frequence... No work (attention: THE CPU DEFINITELY WORKS WITH 3.2!!! Don't bug me with that - I made several burn in tests before with that CPU and that frequency... IT WORKS - OK? !!!)
- I reinstalled the actual 4 in 1 Service Driver for VIA Chipsets
- I even formatted the system anew... no work...

Now has anybody got an idea what could be the reason??? I definitely see none and really need your help (I'm one of these LAN Party freaks who enjoys playing his PCs for a long time )

This is really a bad thing to fix as my system's wlking on my nerves doing this.... PLS HELP!

I used to have the exact same problem a couple years back with a slot A Tekram board running WinME.

I never really found the exact cause etc...and I posted a few questions about it.

Seems I ran DrWatson and it mentioned a possible problem with the modem...or somehow I came to the idea that it was a modem driver......so I changed to a different modem driver and the problem finally stopped.....go figure.

My Bus freq. is 167... It's the last one supported by my PCI cards - as it is 167/33... if I go to 168/34 it's no work anymore (PCI-Bus)

Dunno witch card it is that stops me doing that

Well any ideas then?
