| CHORD at Windows 2000 Login Screen???
This is a weird problem that popped up. Don't know exactly when as I usually keep my headphones plugged in. But anyways about 5 seconds after the login prompt is displayed the chord.wav file is played (even though it's not bound to any system sound). I'm assuming some sort of error may be occuring, but no other dialogs appear on the screen, and I can log in normally. If I log in fast enough I'll get the sound as the desktop loads up. The sound does not play under safe mode so it maybe a service or startup app that is causing this, I'd like to track it down though and find out what the deal is. Anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to do this without hunting and pecking through each and every service/startup app? Currently it's not affecting my system in any adverse way, but it would be nice to know exactly what's happening. |

Check event viewer
start --> run --> 'eventvwr'
Look under system events

Well I saved my logs, cleared them, rebooted, and the only entries that get put into the event list are 6009 followed by 6005 (under systems events), both are informational (not warnings or errors). 6009 lists my Windows version and service pack, and 6005 just states the eventlog service has started. So that seems to only raise more questions...
Any other ideas? |

Find chord.wav and rename it like putting an "a" in front of it. When the program fails to find it it might pop up an error and then you can indentify it.

Bummer. The program's too forgiving.
I'm not too familiar with win2k but if you're set as administrator maybe you'll find it under administration (tools?)

My XP system does that at start-up too. I checked the event viewer and there are no errors listed at boot-up. Strange. |

I have a dual boot 98/XP, and I use 98 for the web, so I cant see the XP control panel, but in 98 there is a "sounds" icon in its control panel where all the wav files for all the dif type notices are associated and you can change them accordingly. There are about 10 sounds for windows startup, including chord and none. Just find the same thing in XP and change it out to what you want. |

No no... this post isn't about setting the Windows startup sound, it's about a default error sound being played at the login prompt. The sounds you set in "System Sounds" are profile specific, and this happens way before any profile it loaded or the Desktop is shown. |

In Win98 sometimes the sounds are just part of that "scheme" or "theme"...for example I am using "leonardo divinci" and it has a sound as soon as u login
could yours just be doing the same thing??
