    Laptop Power Problems

I have Recently Purchased A Dell Latitude CPx Model No: PPx. It has been Working fine for the last month but once when i was using it i found out that the laptop was not able to run off the power cord any more. It can run off battery power but it can't recharge or run off the cord. I tried my friends cord and my cord worked on his laptop but his did not work on mine. Does anyone know whats going on with my laptop?

sounds liek what happened to my laptop abput 6 months ago.. the power connector on the mobo ( the one that the power adapter plugs into ) was fried...... there are ways to fix ust the plug.. BUT most places will just want to replace the whole mobo.. see if you can find a true electronics repair shop that is competent enough to change just the plug on the mobo. I would reccomend letting said repair shop first verify this is truly the problem first tho.

also you can prolly look on ebay for a replacement mobo for that lappy too

Yep, sounds like the same thing that happened to mine. The connector where the cord goes to the computer is fried, like AzKidd69 said. If you know how to get in there, and know how to solder, then that would be the solution to the problem. It is such a pain to get in there, though, you are better off paying someone to do it. Also, regarding what happened to me, my father went in there but the solder wouldn't take. So just be forewarned.

    similiar problem

I have a Dell Latitude cpi and it works fine with just one problem. It will not power on by itself without it being plugged in. It is almost as if the battery doesn't have enough power to start it even though the battery lasts an hour and a half. This is very strange, please help!

    welcome to techimo, fading!

are you sure your battery lasts an hour and a half? it could be that you have a cd in the drive, and accessing it during boot might be draining the battery faster than you think. also check your boot order (boot hdd first) and eliminate as many programs starting when windoze starts as possible to maximize cpu time on battery.

I'd try a new cord first, then contact the manufacturer or reseller with an inquiry.
