| Win XP Home Edi. wont let me partition my slave hd
Hey all, i've had this probelm for the longest time and have just said the hell without till the past few days..its been getting under my skin..
Well heres the story.. I have a 30 gb hd in my computer right now as a master, and i put in a Maxtor 80 gb hd for my slave.. bios recognizes the drive an says its working, windows recognizes it aswell yet, it will not let me partition the drive, im almost 100% sure the jumpers and power cable are in correctly, im clueless as to why its doing this? ive tried reinstalling xp an still doesnt work..Also in device manager when i go to disk drives an right click on the 80 gb and properties go to the volumes tab and hit populate it gives me for
Type: Unknown
Status: Now Initialized
Partition Style: Not Applicable
but it gives me the full capacity and what not.. im not a real computer wiz or anything, so if someone could help me out with this it would be REALLY REALLY REALLY GREATLY APPRECIATED.. Thanks
Also i had the 80 gb in my previous computer and it ran fine and now it just wont come up..

My guess would either be bad ribbon cable or IDE port.
I had a Soyo board that the Master channel didn't work, but the Slave did. Might be your case.
Also, edit your swear word out of your post.

swop the drives around, 80gb as master, 30gb as slave and dont forget to make sure the jumpers on the rear of the drive are set to master for the 80gb and slave for the 30gb or cable select for them both, you will have to reinstall xp, but windows will see the new drive as drive C: AND ASK HOW YOU WANT IT PARTITIONED/FORMATTED opps sorry about the caps

you dont need to format your 30gig hardrive if you have important file on you 30gig do not format it, you can do that after you installed windows xp on your new hardrive. You can format your old 30gig hardrive on windows |
